Considering he was a self taught pianist, Brian Auger's progress into the heart of the British modern jazz scene of the late 1950's and early 60's was particularly impressive. He paid his dues at The Cottage Club, The Flamingo and Ronnie Scotts with renowned saxophonists Tommy Whittle, Dick Morrisey and arguably Britain's greatest jazz saxophonist Tubby Hayes - all this was several years before Brians’ Hammond Organ epiphany, or his bands - The Trinity and Oblivion Express.

Fast forward to 2017 - and Brian takes up the story, “Ken Greene, the Music Director of Bogie's Club told me that he was planning a week of shows at Bogie's with a different jazz piano trio each night, and would I like to start the week?” I said, “I’d love to!” but I wasn’t thinking about recording anything. I spoke to my son & drummer Karma Auger and he said, “ Let’s get Dan Lutz on bass, he’s a great player.” So we agreed, and I wondered out loud “Should we record this?” “Nah" Karma replied "I’m a bit rusty”. “Well, you are a bit rusty,” I said. “But I’ve been playing digital piano for years, and Bogie's has a real grand piano – a big beautiful Steinway – it’s something else!”

So we decided to leave it at that and go and have some fun. But after we’d played the whole evening, Karma handed me a thumb drive with a recording of it saying, “You never know, there might be one or two tracks that were okay.” Then we went through it, and I went, “Wow! The first all-piano album I’ve ever made!”

The material Brian decided to play features tracks from a selection of his musical influences, heroes and friends including 'Chelsea Bridge' by the great Billy Strayhorn, Miles Davis' 'All Blues' Freddie Hubbard's evergreen 'Little Sunflower' and his own composition 'Victor's Delight' he wrote a tribute to the great English Jazz musician Victor Feldman.

Full Circle is Brian's ever first jazz piano album and marks a return to the instrument that first entranced him as a young boy. His musical journey, which began in austere post war London, and on which he absorbed so many varied styles of music, and literally took him around the world, enrapturing audiences worldwide, has indeed come full circle.
